The officers and members of Local 547 would like to welcome you into the BNSF Railway workforce. Your new position with the railroad is governed by the Union Shop Agreement between the BNSF Railway and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and, as such, requires membership in the IBEW within 60 days of employment. This information should have been supplied to you by your supervisor at the time of your employment.
Local 547, currently, has more than 180 members representing System Electrical, and Telecommunications Departments. Our charter is based in Galesburg, Illinois but our members are all over the BNSF System. To find out more about the LU547 go to http://www.ibew547.org/
Below ae links to the forms which are necessary for processing your membership. Please complete and sign the Application for Membership, Form W-9, and the Wage Assignment forms found on this site and send them to the financial secretary at the above address along with a check or money order made out to IBEW L.U. 547.
The Form W-9 is for confirmation of the social security number submitted on your application. The International Office requires that to prevent fraudulent use of your social security number. The Wage Assignment gives the BNSF authority to collect the dues from your paycheck and submit that payment to the Local for distribution to the System Council and International Office. Please make sure all forms are signed in the proper location.
There are two types of IBEW membership, “A” and “BA”. The “BA” membership constitutes the basic IBEW membership and a “BA” member enjoys all the rights and privileges afforded any member of the IBEW. “BA” members, however, do not participate in the pension or death benefit plans of “A” membership. An “A” member contributes $18.00 monthly toward the IBEW Pension Benefit Fund. The IBEW no longer provides printed information on the PBF but you can obtain literature online here: http://www.ibew.org/links/index.htm
The dues deduction is currently made from the second pay period of the month so you will see the deduction from the check you receive on the 1st check of the following.
